Hattiesburg Zoo:

Who DOESN’T love the zoo? Our favorite? The Sloth Experience!! You can help prepare the sloth’s food, feed them, and hang out with one up close and personal! How cool is that? The Hattiesburg Zoo is a great place for a day trip when the kids are out of school. There are lots of other awesome things to do in Hattiesburg as well!

Mississippi Coast Model Railroad Museum:

Have a kid that loves Legos? Jurassic Park? Trains? You can have fun with all three at this Museum! The Museum is the home of the largest LEGO(R) railroad display in Mississippi, multiple scale model train layouts, elevated and ground level G scale trains, interactive layouts for kids to operate and enjoy, outdoor garden displays, and multiple riding trains!  There are also many fun, themed outdoor railroad displays to enjoy like Jurassic Park and Futurama! Lots of other awesome things to do in Gulfport- make a weekend trip out of it!

Mississippi Petrified Forest:

Do your kids like fossils? Dinosaurs? The Petrified Forest is definitely the place to go! This forest was designated a national landmark in 1965, but it dates back 36 MILLION YEARS! How cool is that? There is lots of shade in the forest as well, making it a good place to check out to get outside on a hot Mississippi Summer Day!

Mississippi Children’s Museum:

Have littles that are a tad too small to appreciate the adult museums? Want to get out of the Mississippi Heat and spend some time in the Air Conditioning? The Mississippi Children’s Museum is your place! From their website: “Opened in December 2010, this 40,000 square foot museum houses five galleries of educational, interactive exhibits and enriching weekly programs that focus on literacy; health and nutrition; the cultural arts; science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM); and Mississippi heritage.  In 2014, MCM opened a sixth, outdoor, 13,000 square foot gallery, the Literacy Garden, which combines experiential artworks with unique landscape architecture that encourages early language and reading skills development.”

The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies, Ocean Marine Park:

Love Dolphins? What about other marine life? Are your kids curious about what wildlife lives in the Ocean? Get up close and personal with some beautiful mammals of the sea as well as birds and reptiles at the Ocean Marine Park.

Mississippi Museum of Natural Science:

The largest museum in the State of Mississippi is right here in Jackson! The museum is in  LeFleur’s Bluff State Park  and features aquariums, habitat exhibits, and nature trails specializing in the flora and fauna of Mississippi. The museum also houses the state's systematic collections, containing more than a million specimens of fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds, mammals, invertebrates, plants, and fossils. What an awesome educational day for the kids and adults alike!

Elvis Presley Birthplace:

Are you or your kids Elvis Fans? Are you a fan of Home Birth? Well guess who was born at home right here in Mississippi? Elvis Presley was! Check out the home Elvis was born in, The Fountain of Life, and Elvis’ Childhood Church. Tupelo is an awesome town to explore!

Ship Island in Biloxi:

Ship Island is a Protected National Park on the Mississippi Coast. Once you take the ferry (about an hour trip- check out the dolphins on the way!) to the Island, you can spend the day on the beach enjoying the water and the waves! Whether your family likes Fishing, Snorkeling, Sunbathing, or you would just like to have a nice beach picnic- Ship Island is a fun excursion for the whole crew!

Lynn Meadows Discovery Center:

Mississippi Braves Baseball at Trustmark Park:

Trustmark Park is the home of the Mississippi Braves, Class AA affiliate of the Atlanta Braves and is located in Pearl, Mississippi. If your family likes sports, check out a minor league baseball game here! Minor League Games can be an absolute blast- cheaper than Major League, but just as fun! Lots of snacks and tickets are usually available even last minute. Great place to take the kids in Central Mississippi.
